Freedom Scrolls and Illuminated
Addresses are produced by hand by expert craftsman in the finest tradition
of mediaeval manuscripts. Usually written and illustrated on vellum or
hand-made paper, Freedom Scrolls range from calligraphy only through to
highly decorative formats such as the one shown here.
They may have a leather backing and be tied with ribbon and presented
in a suitable casket, either made from timber (see below) or silver and
suitably engraved and decorated. Alternatively, the manuscript can be
presented mounted and framed.
Scribes Plus will produce a rough sketch of the scroll for approval prior to
starting the work. The calligraphy and illustration is carried out at
our base at Hawkesyard Hall, once the home of Dominican monks who had
their own
scriptorium there.
